Importing Folders From Another Plugin
Bring your folders over from FileBird, Real Media Library, HappyFiles, Enhanced Media Library, Folders (Premio) or Wicked Folders — no reorganizing.
On this page
If you already organized your Media Library in another folder plugin, you do not have to do it again.
Supported plugins
| Plugin |
|---|
| FileBird |
| Real Media Library |
| HappyFiles |
| Enhanced Media Library |
| Folders (Premio) |
| Wicked Folders |
Where to find it
Media → MediaFlow → Tools, in the Import folders from another plugin card. It lists every supported plugin with what MediaFlow can see on your site:
| Column | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Plugin | The source |
| Folders | How many folders it holds |
| Filed media | How many attachments are filed in them |
| Already imported | How many MediaFlow has taken from it so far |
| An Import button, or “Nothing found” |
How to import
- Open Media → MediaFlow → Tools.
- Find the plugin you are moving from.
- Check the folder and media counts look like what you expect.
- Press Import.
Your MediaFlow folder tree is built to match, and the media is filed into it.
Two things that make this safe
It does not need the other plugin running. The importer reads the folder data straight out of that plugin’s own tables or term tables, not through its PHP. So it works whether the source plugin is active, deactivated, or already removed — as long as its data is still in the database.
Importing twice is safe. A second run updates the folders the first one made instead of building a duplicate tree. If you import, add more media in the old plugin, and import again, you get one tree with the new items added — not two trees.
After importing
- Check the tree in Media → Library. Folders are labels, so nothing has moved and no URL has changed — see How folders work.
- Only then deactivate the old plugin. There is no hurry, and having both installed briefly costs you nothing.
Limitations
- Only the six plugins listed above are supported out of the box. A developer
can add another source through the
mediaflow_import_sourcesfilter. - Folder colours, icons and sort orders set in the other plugin are not carried over — only the structure and the media assignments.
- A source with nothing in it shows Nothing found rather than an Import button.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need the old plugin active to import?
No. MediaFlow reads its tables directly.
What if I import twice by accident?
Nothing breaks. The second run updates the same folders rather than creating a second set.
Will importing move my files?
No. MediaFlow never moves a file on disk, and no attachment URL changes.
Can I import from two plugins?
Yes. Each source is tracked separately, so you can import from one, then the other.
My plugin is not on the list.
Its folders can often still be imported if it stores them as a taxonomy — that
is how HappyFiles, Enhanced Media Library, Folders (Premio) and Wicked Folders
are read. Adding one is a mediaflow_import_sources filter; see Filters and
hooks.
