Installation
Install and activate MediaFlow, meet the requirements, and start making folders straight away — no licence needed for that part.
On this page
This guide covers installing MediaFlow, activating it, and — if you have a Pro licence — activating that too.
What you’ll need
| Requirement | Minimum | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| WordPress | 6.0 | Tested up to 6.8. |
| PHP | 7.4 | Your host controls this; most modern hosts already meet it. |
| Licence | Optional | Folders are free and unlimited. A licence adds the Pro features and plugin updates. |
Elementor and WooCommerce are optional. If either is installed, MediaFlow can find media used inside it — see What gets detected. Neither is required, and MediaFlow does not load either one.
How to install it
Step 1 — Get the plugin ZIP
Download the MediaFlow ZIP. Keep it somewhere easy to find and do not unzip it: WordPress needs the ZIP.
Step 2 — Upload it to WordPress
- Log in to your WordPress admin.
- Go to Plugins → Add New Plugin → Upload Plugin.
- Click Choose File, select the ZIP, then Install Now.
Step 3 — Activate
When the upload finishes, click Activate Plugin.
Step 4 — Find the two screens
MediaFlow adds itself to two places:
- Media → Library gains a folder tree beside the grid or list.
- Media → MediaFlow holds the settings, with three tabs: Settings, Tools and License.
Activate your licence
This step is only needed for the Pro features. Folders work without it.
Open Media → MediaFlow → License, paste your licence key and the email address the licence was bought with, then click Activate license.
Full detail is in Free vs Pro and License Activation.
What happens right after activation
- A folder sidebar appears beside the Media Library, in both grid and list view.
- No folders exist yet, and every attachment is listed under Unorganized.
- You can start creating folders immediately, licence or not.
- Automatic organization is off. It is a deliberate opt-in, and a Pro feature — see Automatic Organization.
Deactivating and uninstalling
Deactivating changes nothing. Your media and content are untouched, and your folders are still there when you activate it again.
Uninstalling also leaves everything alone unless you tick “Delete all folders and settings” on the settings screen first. That option is off by default.
Either way, your media files are never deleted — no file was ever moved, and no URL ever pointed at a folder.
Frequently asked questions
Will this break my media URLs?
No. The plugin never moves a file and never rewrites a URL. See How folders work.
Do I need Elementor or WooCommerce?
No. Both are optional. If either is active, MediaFlow can additionally find the media used inside it.
Can I try it without a licence?
Yes, and you can use it properly without one. Folders are free and unlimited. The Pro features are the ones built on the content scan — see Free vs Pro.
