1.5.5 — First public release

Everything documented on this site, as first shipped. The notes below record what changed during development, for anyone who wants the background.

Pre-release development history

1.5.4

Fixed

  • Automatic updates could never have worked — no update check would ever have been sent. The updater built its update-server address only from a constant the plugin itself never defines (it exists so a site can override the server). On a normal install that left the address empty, so the updater cached an empty result and returned without ever making an HTTP request. Caught and fixed before release: the updater now falls back to the same server the licence client already resolves correctly.
  • Verified against the live licence server: the feed returns a valid, correctly signed response with a working package URL, and the update is written into WordPress’s update transient.

1.5.3

Fixed

  • The remaining “Go Pro” / “Upgrade to Pro” buttons now lead to the pricing page. The 1.5.1 fix only covered the License settings page’s own Upgrade Plan button. Two other hardcoded destinations were missed: the plan-badge Upgrade to Pro link in the page header, shown on every SubscriptionFlow admin screen, and every Go Pro button in the Email Center (template list, template editor and locked-template prompts). All of them pointed at our own License settings page instead of a real destination. Every upgrade link now resolves through one source.

1.5.2

Fixed

  • “Check Again” on the WordPress Updates screen could silently do nothing. A successful update check was cached for six hours in a second cache layer on top of WordPress’s own, and Check Again only cleared WordPress’s — so a recheck within six hours of the last successful one kept serving the old answer with no new request reaching the licence server. A forced check now bypasses that cache.

1.5.1

Fixed

  • The admin Upgrade Plan link on the License settings page no longer falls back to a URL on the licence server itself when the server has not supplied its own upgrade address — for example before a key has ever been activated. It now falls back to the real pricing page, and still uses whatever address the licence server sends once a key is active. Overridable through the subscriptionflow_upgrade_url filter.

1.2.0

New

  • Free Trial. Offer a free trial before the first paid renewal. Enable it per product — duration and unit, behaviour after the end, an optional label, and one-per-customer — from the product’s Subscriptions Settings tab. Trials apply to recurring products only.
  • No charge today. A trial product’s line item is set to $0 at checkout, and the order review shows the trial. New licenses and subscriptions are created with the new trialing status; access is active until the trial end date.
  • Deferred first charge. The first paid renewal is attempted only when the trial ends. With a saved WooCommerce payment token it is charged off-session and the subscription converts to active; otherwise a pending renewal order is created and a one-click pay-link email is sent. Nothing is charged before the trial ends, and the existing renewal locks prevent double-charging.
  • Dashboards. The customer dashboard shows a Free Trial badge, the trial end date, days remaining, the next payment date, payment-method status, and an Add Payment Method button when none is on file. The admin Licenses table gains a Trial Ends column.
  • Email Center (Pro). A new Free Trial email group, disabled by default: Trial Started, Trial Ending Soon (scheduled), Trial Ended — Payment Due, Trial Converted To Paid, Trial Payment Failed and Trial Expired, with trial placeholders.
  • Plans. Trial configuration, the trialing status and the dashboard display work on Starter (Free). Automated conversion and scheduled trial emails require Pro.

Improved

  • Storage is additive: the new trialing status plus two nullable columns (trial_ends_at, trial_converted_at) are added by the standard upgrade. Existing products, licenses and subscriptions are unchanged.

1.1.16

Fixed

  • Scheduled cancellations now finalise on their own. A subscription set to Pending Cancellation is finalised to Cancelled at the end of its paid period by the daily maintenance job (previously it could stay “Pending Cancellation” until the license was next checked). The customer dashboard also refreshes lapsed statuses when viewed.

1.1.15

New

  • The Payment Successful email now has an Attach PDF invoice toggle — when enabled, the order’s PDF invoice is attached to the email.

1.1.14

Improved

  • The Email Center is now browsable on every plan: Free users can open it and preview every available email, each marked with a Go Pro prompt. Enabling, editing, and sending remain Pro. (Refines 1.1.13, where it was hidden on Free.)

1.1.13

Changed

  • The Email Center is now a Pro feature in its entirety. On Starter (Free) it no longer loads — no menu, no sending. Activate Pro to use it. (Previously, transactional emails were available on all plans.)

1.1.12

Improved

  • Email Center performance and a full quality/security review pass.

1.1.11

Improved

  • Email Center: added order placeholders ({order_id}, {order_total}, {order_date}) and filters + pagination to the email log.

1.1.10

New

  • Retention emails (Pro): renewal reminders (30/14/7/3/1 days), grace‑ending and last‑day notices, win‑back (7/30 days), cancellation survey, and “sorry to see you go”, sent by a built‑in scheduler with duplicate protection.

1.1.9

New

  • Security emails: 2FA enabled/disabled, recovery codes regenerated, too‑many‑attempts, email changed, and password changed.

1.1.8

New

  • License emails: site activated, new website activation, deactivated, and activation‑limit‑reached.

1.1.7

New

  • Subscription emails: created, renewed, payment success/failed, cancelled, cancellation scheduled, suspended, reactivated, expired, grace started — plus admin notifications.

1.1.6

New

  • Introduced the Email Center (SubscriptionFlow → Email Center): a central place to enable, edit, preview, test, and log automatic emails. All templates ship disabled by default.

1.1.5

Fixed

  • The admin brand banner now sits correctly below all WordPress/plugin notices on every SubscriptionFlow screen.

1.1.4

Improved

  • The admin banner shows the plugin name above the tagline and was repositioned relative to notices.

1.1.3

New

  • Added the SubscriptionFlow admin brand banner across all plugin screens.

1.1.2

Improved

  • Free users can now edit the built‑in plans (creating new plans remains Pro).
  • The Settings → Dashboard tab keeps the dashboard shortcode visible on Free.

1.1.1

Improved

  • Refined Free/Pro gating for the Settings tabs, Plans, and product checkout options.

1.1.0

New

  • Introduced the Starter Free vs Pro plan system with clear upgrade prompts. Free covers core subscription management; Pro unlocks automation, payments, security, Elementor widgets, and advanced settings.

1.0.7

Removed

  • Removed the legacy plugin‑download product fields for a cleaner Subscriptions Settings tab.

1.0.5 – 1.0.6

Improved

  • Renamed the product tab to Subscriptions Settings and tidied its fields.

1.0.3 – 1.0.4

Improved

  • Streamlined the admin menu and polished the interface.

1.0.2

New

  • Applied the company‑wide admin design system (cards, tabs, buttons, badges) for a consistent, professional look.

1.0.1

New

  • Added the self‑licensing client so SubscriptionFlow Pro can be activated and kept up to date.

1.0.0

New

  • First release of SubscriptionFlow for WooCommerce: subscription products, licenses, plans, renewals, customer dashboard, payments, and security foundations.
